You're traveling to Walt Disney World and you want to bring your fur baby but your fur baby is not a Service Dog. Where can you stay? Obviously if you are traveling with a Service Dog you can stay at any resort you want but what about the regular dogdos?
Don't worry. Disney has four resorts on property that are pet friendly and they range from value to deluxe.
1. Disney's Art of Animation - Value Resort, on the Skyliner route. We have stayed here and it was awesome. Would recommend.
2. Fort Wilderness Campsites and Cabins - Moderate Resort, has a gigantic dog run for both large and small bread dogs. We have stayed here and absolutely loved it! So much open space and the cabins are fantastic! Would recommend.
3. Port Orleans Resort- Riverside - Moderate Resort, near Disney Springs area. We have not stayed here yet but have heard good things. It's on our list to visit for 2024!
4. Disney's Yacht Club - Deluxe Resort, walking distance to EPCOT. Very popular resort because of the huge pool that is basically a water park and connected to Beach Club. We have not stayed year yet but it too is on our list for 2024!
For some of us standing in lines is very challenging and Disney has set up a program to help those who need an alternative. Personally with a Service Dog it's extra difficult because I'm constantly worried someone will step on Ernie or not see him. Also kids can be a problem. Often they see "cute dog" and not "working dog" and they want to pet him and are not going to take no for an answer. Sometime parents help us out and sometimes not. So it's just easier if we are allowed to wait somewhere else until it's our turn to enjoy the ride.
That's where DAS comes in to play. There are two ways you can set up this service on your My Disney Experience App. The first is registering online on the Disney website any time between 2-30 days prior to your first park day visit. You will be directed to an online video chat with a Cast Member where you can explain why you need the service.
The second way is to go to Guest Services when you arrive at your first park. The cast members will be able to assist you on the spot and get you ready for your day.
The only advantage to setting up in the video chat prior to your arrival is that you are allowed to make an additional two ride reservations during the chat. Normally it's one at a time just like Lightning Lanes so this can be very helpful.
Please note that which ever way you choose to set up your DAS the Cast Members will be respectful and will not require you to disclose any personal medical information. That's an ADA violation. However if it does happen ask for an Area Manager immediately.
Walt Disney World has four main Theme Parks, not including the additional two water parks, and we are going to let you know where the Service Dog Relief Areas are in each one. Also which ones are our favorites and which ones are for emergency use only :)
Magic Kingdom
- Adventureland adjacent to the Pirates of the Caribbean
- Frontierland by Big Thunder Mountain
- Liberty Square behind the Tavern near where Santa does his meet and greet during the holidays.
- Fantasyland near the Railroad by Pete's Silly Sideshow *this is a favorite because it is the most secluded location and has the most space available.
- Tomorrowland under the Peoplemover by Space Mountain to the right of the stage. *this is another favorite because it's close tot he Peoplemover which is one of our favorite rides!
EPCOT
Service Dog areas are located thoughout the park and World Showcase.
- To the right of Journey Into Imagination near the human restrooms around the corner. This is a favorite location because of the proximity to Winnie The Pooh catching butterflies on the lawn close by so you can grab a quick distanced selfie!
- Near Test Track behind the human restrooms close to the pretzel cart in World Celebration. This is also a favorite as it is the largest location and most secuded.
- Between Germany and Refreshment Outpost in World Showcase. This is the smallest area and can be hard to locate but it's behind the merchandise stand.
- In United Kindgom to the right of the human restrooms.
Hollywood Studios
- Front of the park by the courtyard near First Aid
-Across from Baseline Tap House. This area is very small and usually crowded with guests waiting for a table at the restaurant. Not recommended but when ya gotta go ya gotta go.
- At the entrance to Toy Story Land just before Woody on the right side by the gate to backstage. This location is better because it is a little more secluded but just be aware that there are occasional meet and greets near this area so be warned it could get crowded.
In Toy Story Land next to Alien Swirling Saucers before the entrance to Galaxy's Edge. This is our favorite location! It's the biggest and most secluded area so you have an escape from the crowds. It's hidden away off to the side by the backstage gate so hardly anyone comes back here.
Animal Kingdom
There are five locations in the main park and one on Rafiki's Planet Watch.
- Dinoland near the back of Resturantosaurus on the left if you are standing looking at the restaurant.
- To the left of the entrance to Maharajah Jungle Trek
- Near the First Aid and Baby Care Station behind Creature Comforts. Take the path to the right behind the DVC information stand. This one is good because it is secluded but it is a small location.
- On the path from Africa to Pandora. After you cross under the bridge keep walking and you will see the area off to the right. This is by far the best location in the park. It's huge and secluded from guests plus the tall plants provide privacy while your pup does his business.
